One way of determining the attraction of an investment is by looking at an indicator you might not have considered. I note that there is a considerable increase in traffic to this website this week. This prompts the question in my mind - what is motivating the increase in interest in my site. I'm not posting so regularl
y lately. I suspect there has been some newspaper articles on the global appeal of gold. I did however use the Google Trends analytics tool to determine if there had been a recent increase in Google searches for 'gold stocks' and 'buying gold', and I see no significant increase. Without looking at the technical (chart) patterns, I am inclined to think the reason is a favourable article.
We must remember however that buying stocks is not a popularity contest, and the 'smart money' is invested before the herd. The question then remains - when is the right time to buy. I will reserve that opinion for another day when I am working from my other computer. If you go to this website you can actually download the underlying data as a CSV (excel) file and overlay the gold price data over it. It might be more interesting to correlate changes in these numbers vs changes in gold prices (%change).
